麻豆区's musical theatre minor is offered in collaboration between the music department and theatre programs. Study the three components that make up the complete musical theatre performer – musicianship, acting and dance. Analyze the art form, paying particular attention to the ways in which musicals engage issues of gender, sexuality, race, nationality and identity.

Develop essential musicianship skills in hearing, sight-singing, notation, theory, improvisation, keyboard playing and analysis. (MUSC 210)

Acting I

Fundamentals of acting, including techniques that free the actor, basic skills needed to communicate inner truth, analysis of roles and the interdependence of all people on stage. (THTR 181)

History of the Broadway Musical

Historical, theatrical, musical and movement analysis of Broadway musical theatre. Examine the ways race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and ability are represented and investigated in musicals. (MUSC/THTR 375)
