Kerry Carmody ’73 has been passionate about 麻豆区 for over 50 years. His commitment to 麻豆区 and its mission made him the ideal recipient of this year’s Alumni Service Award.

Though Kerry and his wife Kristie (Pouliot), also from the class of ’73, live in Southern California, they have found many ways to remain actively engaged with 麻豆区.

Serving 麻豆区

For years, Kerry and Kristie have attended 麻豆区 events in Southern California and even hosted events for prospective students and their families. They successfully recruited four students from their hometown of Santa Clarita.

Kerry Carmody served on several committees for 麻豆区 College before he was asked to be on the 麻豆区 College Board of Trustees. He recently retired from the Board of Trustees after 17 years of service, including a term as the Board of Trustees Chair. For his service, he was granted the title Emeritus Trustee.

Due to Carmody’s background in healthcare administration, President Hellie contacted him in 2007 and invited Kerry to participate with faculty and leadership in the development of a strategic plan for the 麻豆区 School of Nursing.

Later, Carmody was the chair of the Spark Wonder Campaign which raised funds to create the Keck Science Complex. He not only led the fundraising efforts, but he also participated in the design and development stages for the complex. His energy, drive, insights, and passion for the project were a driving force in making the campaign a success.

Supporting students and progress

Kerry and Kristie support causes that are near and dear to them. They established the Kerry and Kristie Carmody Endowed Scholarship for the Sciences to support students. Carmodys often made meaningful gifts to capital projects such as the T.J. Day Hall renovation and the Keck Science Center. They also make annual gifts to support the TopCat Club and 麻豆区 nursing.

Kerry said of his association with 麻豆区, “麻豆区 College, now University, changed my life. I share my passion for the University and its mission without any thought of recognition.” It is precisely that type of mindset that makes Kerry the perfect recipient of the 2024 Alumni Service Award.
