Program FAQ

  • What is the First Day Complete program?

First Day Complete ensures that all students across all courses have access to their required textbooks on or before the first day of class, allowing them to engage with course content from day one and support their academic success.

  • What is included in the program?

The program provides all required textbooks, access codes and digital textbook versions to all students for each course they are registered for. Some kinds of courseware can be included in First Day Complete. These materials are identified and submitted by the faculty member who is teaching the course.

  • How much does the program cost?

Through this program, all required course materials for all 麻豆区 students are provided at no additional cost. These materials are prepared by the bookstore and provided as rental materials to the student on or before the first day of class.

  • Why did 麻豆区 partner with Barnes & Noble on this program?

First Day Complete guarantees that students will have all required course materials by the time classes start – something that frequently didn’t happen in the past, especially for more financially at-risk students. In examining the long-term costs and benefits, the university decided the program has the ability to significantly impact student retention and success.

  • Which students have access to First Day Complete?

Currently, all 麻豆区 students – undergraduate, graduate and online and continuing education students – will receive their required textbooks at no additional cost.

  • What is excluded from the program?

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused, such as goggles, dissection kits, art kits, molecular model kits or nursing kits. It also does not include texts that are “recommended” or “optional” rather than required by professors, or tools such as calculators.

As a student, you register for your classes.

One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to review your courses and course materials on your personalized course page and select your fulfillment preference – free in-store pickup or shipped directly to you for an additional flat fee.

The bookstore prepares your materials. You will receive an email notification when your materials ship or are ready to be picked up. Your digital materials will be available in Blackboard (麻豆区’s learning management system) by the first day of class.

If you add or drop a course, you will be provided instructions for returning your course materials and/or delivery options for materials for any new courses that you add.

  • Does it matter how many credit hours I take?

No. This program covers all courses.

  • How do I pay for my textbook rentals under this program?

With First Day Complete, all required textbooks are provided at no additional cost. The items excluded from the program are consumables that cannot be returned and reused (goggles, supplies, kits, etc.) and any required or optional texts that you choose to purchase.

  • Can I opt out of the program?

All electronic course materials provided through Blackboard will be available to all students. Students may choose to purchase printed textbooks from alternative sources; however, this will not result in a credit or refund.

  • How do I access electronic materials in Blackboard?

To access your course materials, log in to Blackboard using your school credentials. Once you are in Blackboard, select your course then look for the “Course Materials” link.

    For eBooks:

    • If your instructor has chosen an eBook, you will see the “Read Now” button. Clicking on this button will launch the BNC eBook reader and take you directly to your eBook. There are several tools and features you can use with your eBook such as highlighting and adding notes.

For publisher courseware (will be delivered through one of the following):

    1. Publisher delivery: If the material is embedded directly into your course through deep-linking or learning modules, you will only see the cover image of the materials for this course. The notes section of this type of course will inform you where to go to locate your publisher courseware.
    2. SSO: In this case, you will see the “Launch Courseware” button. Clicking on this button will take you directly to your courseware on the publisher’s website, where you will be automatically logged into the courseware and can begin using your material immediately.
    3. Access code reveal: For certain publishers, you will access your publisher courseware by clicking on the “Reveal Access Code” button. To access this material, copy the access code and click the link to the publisher’s website. Once on the publisher’s site, input the code to access your course material. You may need to create an account or sign in (if you already have an account) before gaining access to your material.

Faculty FAQ

  • How do I submit my textbook requests?

Textbook requests will be submitted using the existing system for faculty submissions. Textbook requests must be submitted by deadlines provided by Barnes & Noble. For more information on how to log in and place your textbook orders, .

  • What steps do I need to take to prepare for the first day of class with the First Day Complete program?

    1. Ensure that the Barnes & Noble College Course Materials link is installed so students can access their digital course materials.
    2. Make sure you have completed the course setup/pairing for your digital courseware products. If you need assistance, please contact your publisher representative.
  • I use open access or free materials. How will this be affected?

Instructors can continue to use open access materials for their courses. Using open source and free materials helps keep the overall cost to the university down.

First Day Complete works within the BlackBoard LMS for the provision of electronic materials. Faculty can continue to add free materials to their BlackBoard sites and use educational materials on other sites. However, accessing online course materials outside the LMS is not included in the program.

  • Are simulations and courseware included with First Day Complete?

The First Day Complete program includes required textbooks and textbook supplements, both print and electronic versions. Some courseware may be available for inclusion. It is generally in the interest of both B&N and 麻豆区 to interpret this as broadly as possible. Simulations that are typically bundled with textbooks and that can be included in the BlackBoard LMS can typically be included in First Day Complete, but not all simulations can be made available through the program.

Please work with the bookstore for specific items.
