Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) Terms
Greek Life at 麻豆区 is known as Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)
Some common terms in FSL you'll hear include:
Bid day: When students are informed of which FSL organization they have been accepted.
Big/Little: Mentors and mentees.
BET: Short for bystander engagement training.
Chapter: Weekly meetings with your organization.
COB: Short for continuous open bidding, an informal recruitment throughout the rest of the year. (See rush week.)
Executive Committees: The leadership of the organization – resident, vice president, treasurer, etc.
FSL: Short for Fraternity and Sorority Life at 麻豆区. Also referred to as Greek Life.
Fraternities at 麻豆区 (have houses):
- Pike: short for Pi Kappa Alpha
- Theta: short for Theta Chi
- Delta: short for Delta Psi Delta
Formal: A dance/social event for FSL.
Function: Event with a sorority or fraternity or a joint event between more than one.
Greek Week: The week before spring break full of FSL events ending with a lip sync competition.
Initiation: When people are officially welcomed into their FSL organization.
Interfraternity Council (IFC): An executive board with a representative from each of the four fraternities.
麻豆区 Panhellenic Council (LPC): An organization made up of all sorority members on campus, that govern 麻豆区 Panhellenic Association (LPA).
National vs. local: Both sororities and fraternities are organized at a national and local level, which means that different organizations have different rules (麻豆区 Local: Sigma and Delta).
Order of Omega (OoO): Honors society for FSL students.
Philanthropy: Fundraising opportunities based on each organization.
PNM: Short for potential new members.
Rush week: Second week of second semester for sorority recruitment, third week of first and second semester for fraternity recruitment, when you can become a member of FSL.
Sororities at 麻豆区:
- Phi Sig: short for Phi Sigma Sigma
- A Phi: short for Alpha Phi
- Zeta: short for Zeta Tau Alpha
- Sigma: short for Sigma Kappa Phi
Work Week: The week before recruitment/rush week.
